Just a minute or 2 prior to this filming, I was squatting down, stuffing my gear into my pack. I heard some galloping to my left and turned my head to see a cinnamon colored Black Bear (Ursis Americanus), charging at me , This rascal began to snap his Jaws and huff - Figuring I had nothing to lose, I stood up and yelled at the bear to stop. Im pretty sure I surprised Mr. Bear with this move because he stopped , turned tail and ran back about 25 yards or so, He continued to Huff and walk back and forth keeping an eye on me.
I quickly packed up my gear, then took this short video. This bear made one more bluff charge as I headed down the trail. In 35 years of wandering around wilderness areas all over the world I have never before been charged by a bear - Bluff charge or not.
As I sit here now and recall the event, It was actually kind of cool to experience, But, I hope it never happens again.
