Helena Montana Airport en route to Arizona

Wow, finally I’m getting out of Montana. I had Planned on Hitch Hiking out of here on the 23rd of November but on the designated day I awoke with some type of Flu which laid me low for a few days; After that I received word that my brother had entered Hospice care after a long fight with cancer and finally gave up the ghost just the other day.

In addition to those two things the weather here in Montana took a severe turn for the worst. I awoke the other morning to -30F I had not experienced those extreme cold temperatures for several years and it was indeed a shock to me.

To be frank – I hate cold weather and am more of a palm tree and Hawaiian shirt kinda guy then I am a snow and arctic parka type. I have always disliked wearing several layers of clothing and have always found the cold and dark to be very depressing. In fact it is snowing now with a high wind coming out of the north – it is Like Montana is giving me a winter send off. It would be just my luck that the flight will be cancelled and ill be stuck here at the airport all night.

I’m currently sitting in the Helena airport on my way back to sunny Arizona via Flying on Horizon and Allegiant airlines. I checked my bag for the flight to Billings and Horizon ripped me off for an additional $15.00 handling fee for my back pack; unbelievable.

I have no real plan other then to get back there and enjoy the warmth. I might even search for a job but frankly I’m tired of looking; I have gotten a lot of rejection notices lately and I have sent out over 600 Resumes/CV last week without a single response. I’m beginning to think that there are not too many jobs out there for a guy with my qualifications.

The other morning when it was a frigid -30F I went to see a travel agent in Helena to purchase my tickets outta here! I was amazed to find out that allegiant airlines (http://www.allegiantair.com/) was offering a fare from Billings, Mt. to Mesa, Arizona for $39.00.

It cost me more than twice that to get a flight from Helena to Billings on Horizon airlines tho. I have never understood why it costs so much to fly into or out of Helena, Montana; anyway, I got the whole ticket for a whopping $186.00 which is more than ½ of what it would have cost me to fly Alaska/Horizon airlines via Seattle. I guess it pays to shop around.

If you are ever traveling in Helena Montana and spend anytime at the airport there are some decent places to eat here, and there is a passenger lounge where you can tap into the free wifi internet. You can also obtain all of the information you might need on hotels ,rental cars and restaurants , etc. in the local area.

Montana is a great place to visit in warm weather and Helena is an alright town that is easy to get in to and out of, it also has the added benefit of having wilderness all around.
But….Like I said, I only really like it in the warm months of summer.
Tomahawk – waiting on a plane!
