Packing List - Hitch hiking trip 700 + miler

Howdy folks! I just wanted to post a list of the equipment that i was carrying on my recent Hitch hiking trip Keep in mind that I had just quit my job as a wilderness instructor so I had a bunch of unnecessary stuff.

I had on the trip from utah to az the following,

Shelter: army poncho, repaired with duct tape.
Crazy creek chair(http://www.crazycreek.com/).

Cut down army issue sleeping pad( http://www.galaxyarmynavy.com/item-4088.asp)

Wiggy poncho liner(http://wiggys.com/category.cfm?Category=6).

Water: 2 one liter nalgene(http://www.nalgene-outdoor.com/) water bottles.

Two 40 ounce Ultimate direction sport flasks(one with drinking tube,http://www.ultimatedirection.com/product.php?page=all)

Fire: small bic lighter and the knowledge of flint and steel & bow and drill fire making(http://www.youtube.com/user/pathfindertom1122).

Food: trail mix, granola, coffee, coco, chicken and tuna in foil packets, spices, peanut butter, crackers and 6 cans of sardines i got at the dollar store in utah. 1 Large green compression stuff sack to use as a bear hang food bag. In addition I had some Mormons tea(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mormon_tea) which I picked just inside the arizona state line on the Navajo reservation.

Misc:
Small cooking pot I bought in Darfur, sudan.

Canteen cup with lid and spoon.

wrist rocket w/extra rubbers( for hunting small game)http://stun-ningsales.com/SportStore/wrist-rocket.htm.

Whisky flask(empty-never bought any booze for it).

Arkansas stone for my knives.

Timex Expedition watch,( http://www.timex.com/gp/node/n/1263830011/?extid=fl_home_200906_SummerNew)

Sun glasses, Reading glasses.

Camera, Thumb drive.

Mini mag flash light with extra batteries.

4' x 4' plastic sheet .

Knives: my old green river knife carried around my neck. swiss army knife with saw on it(cant remember the name) another swiss army knife on my belt cheap folder with a whistle on it, cold steel tanto neck knife and an old timer whittling knife.

Clothing: Dickies pants, polypro long johns, boxers(2) ,4 pair of socks(2 smart wool , 2 cotton), Timberland boots, nike shower shoes, nylon instructor belt ,3 bandanas, my old shemag, goretex wind pants ,columbia river shorts, 3 t shirts, 511 shirt - long sleeve, patagonia shirt - short sleeve, hoodie, vest - sorel brand, army goretex jacket in desert cammo.
Thats abt it.

While on the Navajo Reservation I stopped at a post office in one of the small towns and mailed a bunch of stuff to my friends house in montana because i didnt use it.

The things i mailed were :
Binoculars, hair clippers, winter gloves w/2 sets of liners, neaplese wool cap, bush hat, note books, winter long johns, flint and steel set,and many other things i have forgotten about.

As stated i had just quit my job and i didnt want to leave anything behind. in the summer i never use a sleeping bag, the goretex suit and poncho liner combo has been a good system for me over the years. in winter i do use a wiggy bag tho(http://www.wiggys.com/).

My back pack is an australian SAS pack sold by wiggy in grand junction colorado. it is a very comfortable pack when fully loaded but not the right kind of bag for hitching or back packing. being designed for war it would fill that nitch well.

Oh! i almost forgot, i had my maxpedition rollypolly day pack(http://www.maxpedition.com/store/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=12&idproduct=506) along too. I didnt know it was in the bottom of my pack when i was paking.

This sounds like a lot but it really isnt once it is packed away.

The food/water were the heaviest items.

I hope this helps.

take care, tomahawk
